PLRR is one of the premier events on the Alberta road racing calendar.  2012 was no different, with the added incentive that it was the provincial championship race.  Juventus lined up at the start line with 16 riders in a field of 65, with a team goal to win the race.  A solid core of masters riders to go along with our up and coming youth racers bolstered our hopes.  The early season had already produced some impressive results with wins and podiums at the Velocity and Bikes on Broadway stage rages. 

With such big field we didn’t want to leave the race until the end.  Our plans were reduce to the group by making the race as hard as possible.  If we could get our sprinters to the end, we were confident they could get the job done.  Mother nature provided ample opportunity to help make the selection.  The winds were a factor.

Other clubs were well represented, with equal ambitions.  It was clear from the start that they were not going to hand the race to us.  Juventus, TCR, ERTC, Velocity and others all sent riders to the front to begin the race.  It was not long before the pace and wind created splits in the peloton.  A crash at the 20 km mark, created additional gaps. Juventus riders Greg and Rob covered solo breaks and rode away from the pack with the other rider, causing other teams to take up chase.  We caught the cat 4 pack and for a moment it looked like this might further splinter the group.   They neutralized reducing the opportunity to get away.  Once the last break was consumed Juventus took control over the final 25 km with Jim, Bill, Rob, and Greg taking lead.  By the finish the peloton was reduced to 25 that included six Juventus riders. 

About 10 km from the finish, two riders slipped away.  One was caught but the other stayed away and finished 100 meters ahead of the pack.  In the end, Lukas and Evan sprinted in with 2^nd and 4^th place finishes.  A solid result for the individuals and for our club.
