LAMP+ is in its fourth year in 2019! LAMP+ is an advanced program within the Lori-Ann Muenzer Program. The main objective of LAMP+ is to provide additional training, and racing experience to support a smooth transition to a higher level of competition. LAMP+ registration is part of Juventus LAMP on Zone 4, and opens January 01, 2019.
LAMP schedules two sessions each week over its 15-week program. LAMP+ will include up to two additional riding days per week. Some of the additional rides will be integrated into other programs offered by Juventus and the Argyll Velodrome Association (AVA). The main focus will be road and track, but riders are encouraged to ride and race all cycling disciplines. Riders in LAMP+ will get an earlier start to the season (January) in order to prepare for selected races on the Alberta calendar.
The racing events are primarily in the Edmonton area. For 2019, we are targeting travel events to BC Youth Championships, and Calgary for the School’s Out Youth track meet. At these events, riders will compete in age group categories: Under 15, Under 17 (cadet), and Under 19 (junior). In cycling, your age is taken as of December 31 of the current year. For example, if an athlete turns 15 anytime during the year, they would compete in U17. Riders 14 years of age at the end of the year would compete in U15.
Juventus youth programs follow the Cycling Canada Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). LAMP age riders will be at varying points in their development, mainly at the Learn to Train or Train to Train stages. The typical LAMP+ rider is 13-14 years old, with one or more years of LAMP experience, bringing fitness and strength from multiple sports as well as various cycling disciplines. Riders and their families are encouraged to become familiar with the LTAD to better understand the cycling development journey.
LAMP+ program costs are the same as joining other Juventus cycling programs. Additional costs will be incurred for a racing licence ($100), race registrations ($20- 50), and travel. Youth events are typically discounted. Travel costs will vary depending on locations and other logistics. Juventus Cycling also has budget to support out of town team travel. The AVA Thursday night track league is free of charge for all LAMP and LAMP+ athletes.
Criteria for LAMP+ will be based on a number of factors:
· Number of years of cycling experience
· Commitment to road and track disciplines
· Willing to purchase a race licence
