LAMP (Lori-Ann Muenzer Program)

2026 Registration is open

Learn to Race! An introduction to competitive cycling

The LAMP began in 2005 and is the level of programming that follows Sprockids. It is designed for riders 11 - 15 years old.

The program’s namesake, Lori-Ann Muenzer, won Canada's first ever Olympic cycling gold medal in track cycling! Lori-Ann has been inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and is a lifetime member of Juventus.

LAMP incorporates Cycling Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model. We introduce young athletes to advanced cycling techniques, skills, and safety, while fostering a love for riding a bike. Competition is introduced within a fun and friendly environment with emphasis on personal achievement, camaraderie, and teamwork. Riders must have the maturity, skills, stamina, commitment, and desire necessary for success in this 16-week program. Age, experience, and physical ability are used to group athletes appropriately.

Track

This portion of the program is held at the brand new Alberta Velodrome in the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre. The athletes will learn to ride safely in a group and progress to race tactics that align with their skills and experience.

Timed events and races among peers are held to assess development. When appropriate, riders are encouraged to participate in the Alberta Velodrome Track League.

Road

The road portion focuses on group skills and safety. This part of the program starts out with basic skills close to the velodrome and progresses to the county roads of Strathcona and Parkland. Riders will have the chance to participate in Juventus club events as well as in races that are part of the Alberta cycling calendar. LAMP road sessions require all riders provide their own flashing rear bike light (minimum 100 lumens). Riders of rental bikes shall provide their own flashing rear bike light for rental bike.

Mountain bike

The mountain bike sessions will take place on river valley trails and include bike safety and trail etiquette. We also take the riders to participate in weeknight races hosted by other local clubs. Fat Tire Tuesdays is always a favourite.
