Land Acknowledgement

Juventus Cycling Club and the Alberta Bicycling Association recognizes that the Alex Stieda Classic event, in Parkland County and Laurier Heights Community in Edmonton, is on Treaty #6 territory. The land is a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling route of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge that this is traditional and ancestral land, home to many First Nation, Métis and Inuit.

General Information

Omnium Format - Youth and Senior Category

  • 2024 will be a 2-event omnium – Parkland road race Saturday and a points criterium Sunday in Laurier Heights Edmonton

  • Omnium points awarded to the top ten finishers in the road race

    • Road Race points: 20,18,16,14,12,10,8,6,4,2

  • Omnium points awarded during the criterium points race 

    • Sprints every 4 laps, with double points awarded on the final lap 

    • Each sprint lap awards 5,3,2,1 points with 10,6,4,2 points on the final lap

    • Riders that lap the field during the criterium are awarded 20 points and lapped riders will lose 20 points (or you may be pulled)

  • Omnium ties will be broken by finish order in the final criterium sprint.

  • You must start each event to be eligible for omnium placing

  • All riders require a UCI or Provincial Licence - no day licences

  • Field limits (60) will be in place for all categories

    Youth Category

  • Omnium format (see above)

  • U15 and U17, male and female ride together

  • Age is as of Dec 31, 2024

  • Separate podiums for age and gender youth

  • Youth aged riders may choose to enter an ability category.  Your coach and/or club representative should provide advise on the best category for you.

  • Reduced entry fee

  • Provincial UCI Licence required

    Citizen Category

  • Format: 2 stand alone events, no omnium

  • The criterium will be a scratch race format - first across the line wins

  • Men, women ride together

  • Provincial Citizen licence required

  • Reduced entry fee

  • Can you beat the winning time of the 2023 Citizen Road Race 1:31:18 (37 kph for 57 km)?

    Senior Category

  • Omnium Format (see above)

  • Ability categories 1,2,3,4 for men and women

  • Provincial UCI Licence required

    LAMP

  • Juventus club sanctioned event (road event only) for members registered in the Lori-Ann Muenzer Program

  • LAMP group is NOT part of the Alberta Cup points series

  • LAMP group will be accompanied by Juventus NCCP certified coaches.

  • LAMP will complete a modified circuit of approximately 20 km – At Station 6 they will continue south on RR 270.  The finish will be on RR 270 approximately 500m north of Gramina Hall.  

  • No entry fee. Sign-Up on the day of the event.

  • Provincial UCI Licence NOT required.

  • Alberta Cup Upgrade Points

  • Ability Category only

  • Awarded for each event according to the B schedule - 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 points for the top 8 placed riders

    Race package

  • You must have your UCI or Provincial licence!

  • ABA technical delegate on site to assign numbers, frame plate, and timing chip

  • Give yourself extra time if this is your first ABA race of 2024

  • Please supply your own zip ties to secure your frame plate and pins for your numbers

  • You will need to visit the ABA tent to physically sign the startup sheet on both race days

    Timing chips

  • Replacement for lost or unreturned timing chips is $75

  • If you are racing the Sunday Criterium, do not return your timing chip until the conclusion of your race on Sunday

    Podium presentations

  • Will commence at the end of each race

  • Podium protocol will be followed: be present & wear your team jersey

  • Prizing announced after registration closes

    • Price reduction ($20) for omnium

    • Two early bird dates - sign up early to save $50 off full price

    • Flexion Bike Fit of Edmonton will be giving away a free bike fit and custom insoles ($280 value) to one of our May 13 early bird registrants. ABA ability categories only.

    A mention of the costs for the event, which drives the prices.  Our aim is to run a cost neutral event, so expenses are reflected in the entry fees.  We pay a high fee to close the city roads for the criterium and in turn we offer a neighbor friendly, spectacular setting on pristine pavement.  Another significant cost for the event is having emergency medical services available, if needed. 

Miscellaneous



Cancellation Policy

  • Once registered there is no refund for entry fees associated with the race.

  • While every effort will be taken to hold the event, if for some reason the event is cancelled due to no fault of the organizing club, the Participant will receive a refund of minimum 50% of the Race fees.

  • These circumstances may include but not be limited to wildfire, lightning, snow, hail, wildlife closure and other acts of nature.

  • ABA policy regarding air quality will be followed.
